I recently bought this vintage hunter and thought you might enjoy some details and pictures of one of Jon's early knives. I called Jon prior to buying it to learn what I could. He's a fantastic guy, very helpful taking time to visit with me on the phone and send me detailed emails. I sent him pictures and here's what I learned... it was made prior to June of 2003 (no JS stamp), from edge hardened 5160 with a convex grind. Koa is applied to the tapered tang, the liners are vulcanized paper, the soldered guard and pins of brass. Jon explained the hardening and testing process in clear detail, and even extended his lifetime offer to me for cleaning and sharpening. The sheath made by Jon, is as solid as the knife, it has a stiff waxy feel, with a sharp "click" as the knife comes to rest. It's a beautiful set, with what appears to have little to no use put to the edge. Enjoy his early work, pictures are marginal...
