Knowing that Ontario lists it's basic start up as being in the late 1800's, I tried doing a Google search on their vintage stuff. About the only thing that keeps turning up, are kitchen knives and such (usually the Old Hickory line products). The only non kitchen knives that pop up with the search, are the 1960's/1970's era Ontario USAF Survival knives & the USMC F/U knives made during/after the 1980's.
That said, I know that in recent decades, Ontario Knife has had their hands in making different lines of knives (fixed blade and folding) that were geared towards bushcrafting, military, and everyday use (besides the kitchen).
My question is... Before their USAF Survival and USMC F/U knives, was there any history of Ontario making knives besides kitchen/home based knives? There is of course their machetes that they've made for the US military since WW2, but my question is more about fixed blades and folder knives (the not in the machete class knives).
It almost seems like the military machete, the Air Force Survival knife, and their Marine Corps F/U blades, are the only "knives" in their history that were not home/kitchen knives. I'm also wondering if their major push into non home/kitchen knives, (besides the few military knives already mentioned), was started with their SP series line? If so, it means that besides those few military contract/military purposed knives, Ontario's history in knives may be almost completely within the more mundane home/kitchen knife catagory.
Of course there is nothing wrong with that, but I just like learning the history of these companies and their products
Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this subject
