Sheaths back then as you say were pretty basic all right. Slots for belts were common instead of loops, and the few I've seen were pretty thin leather. A few years ago I spotted an old and much abused Marble belt knife in a second hand shop in Tucson (I thought it was on sale for $50 but the label had been creased, and they were asking $500). The sheath was pretty shabby.Great knives but the sheaths sure did suck in those days. I have one that is pretty much identical to yours. I don't understand why they didn't put a little more effort in to covering the blade for safety sake.
I haven't received the knife & sheath yet, but from the pictures, the sheath does look flimsy. But having the original sheath does help with it's collectability. Also, Are the rivets hand peened? sure does look like it..I haven't received the knife & sheath yet, but from the pictures, the sheath does look flimsy.
