Hi,

I am new to this and was wondering if anyone can help?

I have a Vintage Puma Solingen Knife with a human head wearing a hat on the butt.

Does anyone know anything about it as I have search quite a bit on the net with out any luck?

I have a picture available - will see if I can upload somewhere to display it.

Right here it is. I know it's not in such good condition, but the previous owner didn't really care about it.

What can i say, i happen to like vintage Puma knives :-)

The website i linked to is very much worth browsing through, as German owner Ralf has one of the best collections of vintage Puma knives in the world.

The model 6311 is indeed quite a rare find, but to be worth something to a collector it has to be in or near the condition of the one your see pictured on the website.
In German these knives are called "Fahrtenmesser" (free translation is something of a traveller's knife) and they used to be quite common in the 40's/50's and 60's of the previous century on the belts of backpackers, scouts, and outdoorpeople in general.
While not of the same build- and steel quality of the more expensive professional hunting & collector's knives, they are still functional and capable knives that will take a keen edge.

Not so much for collector value, but if you would remove the existing rust with a few soakings in oil and some fine steel wool (no grinders or motorized equipment) & give it a good edge, you could end up with a good user as well a nice conversation piece.
