Anyone know what model this is exactly, the apoximate date of manufacture (as is and if we fixed the finish?) A friend got it recently and was curious to know more about it. Also should it be refinished and if so what was the original finish like? I don't know much about Randals other then they are a trusted high quality brand that's been around for a long time, And can fetch a high price. Thanks in advance!

Ok not sure what's going on with my link but it works if you copy and paste. Sorry for the hassle.

Don't do anything at all to it! It is fine and "refinishing" will hurt the value.

Thanks for the info and the pic. I'm using tapatalk for the first time so not exactly sure why my link didn't work.
Kinda figured it may be a bad idea to refinish but figured I'd ask. I haven't seen the knife in person but from what my friend said it's mostly patina with a Tiny bit of minor pitting.

From my searching I too thought model 3.

I looked for the Randall forum under manufacturers but didn't see it. If one of the mods wants to move it on over it'd be appreciated. Thanks again!

Honestly brother? When a vintage knife has that old looking patina on it, you don't want to refinish it. Detracts from it's character and value. I would suggest just taking it out, oiling it with a good knife oil and using a cloth to wipe off the excess to prevent it from rusting without losing the patina. Old knives should be loved and appreciated. Today's knives have much better steel and quality. That's my opinion.

^^This^^ There's nothing you can do to that knife that's going to improve its value vs. restoration cost...

Yeah personally i'd just keep it as is too. My buddy who owns it wanted to know his options. So even though I was pretty sure refinishing was a no go, I told him I'd ask. Most of my collection is new production, semi custom, and customs. Haven't really got into older stuff although I do like some older stuff and definately respect our modern blades roots.

So around 1974 huh? Cool that m means I wasn't to far of with my guess. I figured late 60's or 70's

Anyone have any idea what it's worth? My friend wants to join the forum and sell it or trade it for a modern fighter once we figure out a price.

Almost anything anyone here throws out as to value will likely be, IMO, speculative at best (and something that is frowned on by the Moderators too) - I'd suggest your friend do his homework before joining the forum and purchasing a Gold level membership (required to sell here at BFC)...the 'Completed Listings' on eBay is a good place to start looking for comparable knives sold in the last 60 days, and their values... ;)
