Here is a quick video on one of my favorite genre of knives .....the modern interpretation of the Japanese Kwaiken

I have been a huge fan of these since my first experience with a Hartsfield Kwaiken

The Kwaiken has become a very popular design and many new makers are putting out some fantastic pieces

Matt Gregory and Ben T to name a few

This ancient utility design has become a modern tactical tour de force as much as I hate the word tactical :)

Here is one of my favorite pieces

A vintage piece from no other than the great tactical folder genius RJ Martin

These pieces are rare and good luck gtting one from RJ :)

A fine piece for any well dressed modern day Samurai :)

Thanks for the shoutout, Joe.

For those of you trying to get one, now that Joseph has made them instantly desireable....good luck.

R.J. Martin will not make these at this time and he will not take orders for them...he will laugh if you ask for one.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

And to think I bought this one years ago at a small knife show in a fire house for I think around 400 bucks :)

There's one on a certain custom knife website from Florida but has a southwestern name... it's $1300

Another nice little expose. JParanee are you planning to feature any of your swords? :)

Beautiful. Thank you Joe. One of those has been on my list for years. Mike

I was lucky enough to acquire one recently, same menuki and all from a member here at BFC.
Missed a couple of RJ's kwaikens at Nordic shortly before that, they may have lasted one day there.

More importantly..I LOVE your threads, Joe, and thanks so much for doing them.
Love the sheath/carry system, static lines are a Joe Paranee trademark. :)

Thank you all for the kind words

I truly love these modern adaptations of a classic design :)

Nice blade and great video Joe.

Your vids are providing some history that is new to many, yet very important for current knife history.

After the Phill Hartsfield tanto cutting demo, I should have said "big swords." Looking forward to the presentations, it's gonna be a hoot. :D

No one has done more for the knife than the Japanese.
I do lean toward the traditional blades, done in the modern way.

Nice and very informative.

I really like the idea of the felt-lined, leather wrapped kydex sheath.

Thanks for the review.

best

Almost 10 years ago I did a complete photo essay of a W.I.P. following RJ around his shop creating a scary sharp knife.

It was the noted Kwaiken. I'll find the album and post later. VERY informative look into the work, his shop, and his methods.

Good thread! :D
