Question: How old does a knife need to be, in forum members collective thoughts, to be deemed genuine 'Vintage'...possibly one of the most overworked words on that popular auction site.....early 1900's?...1920's?....1950's?....1960's?...or heaven forbid 1970's & 1980's like we all see so often....
I'm certain no-one that attends this forum would be interested in this "vintage item"..so I hold it up as a shining example of a ridiculous vintage described knife......and possibly one of the ugliest knives I have ever unfortunately laid my eyes on....Item#300674451893..Headed 'Vintage Schrade Collectible' <sic>...
I consider my mother in law genuine 'vintage' and she's a roaring 20's model.....and no better looking than that knife... but thats another story.......
So what is your opinion on what should be considered ""vintage"".....Hoo Roo.

That is an old knife Larry, I have seen them before. I think they were made last year.
It looks old. Note the postage cost to send it to us - you could post a car for that.

good question. maybe it should be like antiques? what makes it antique? 50 years? which would be 1960's now or 25 years 1980's? this would take us from Scharde Walden era to the Schrade era. but most certainly not the Taylor error (sic). it is hard to realize now that Schrade has been gone for almost 10 years, so the 2004 knives are getting to close to being 10 years old. i know Codger and i are vintage but that is another story also.

Words and phrases I wish would go away:
1. Mint. Knives aren't made in mints.
2. Vintage. Knives don't grow on vines.
3. Scharde. WTF?
4. The ubiquitous ill-used apostrophe. Except when used as a possesive, it ALWAYS stands for a missing letter or letters. eg.: "IT'S" always means "IT IS." When a fellow says "I believe I have discovered its secret!," said fellow is poorly advised to stick a ding-dang apostrophe in there (rant, rant).
5. Sharp as a razor. hahahaha.
6. Genuine Stag. Apparently this means Delrin, which brings us to:
7. Derlin. (an inebriated cowboy's sweetheart?)
8. C'mon, guys; fill in numbers 8 through 27!

8. Sandbar stag
9. Uncle Henery
10. "Restored/ cleaned to 'mint' condition"

Chuck

15. Nikel silver
16. Real silver when talking about Sterling.
17. Genuine Delrin? what is fake Delrin.

18. bowie (translation: hunting knife)
19. fighting knife (translation: hunting knife)

20. for sale a buck knive made by shrade. translation "a lock back made by Schrade is offered for sale"

.......and what about the sellers who tell the greatest pack of lies in their listing hoping to dupe some unfortunate...and end with quoting a Psalm and 'God Bless'........all I ever see is the word ""Warning""...when they do.....Hoo Roo

Here is a charming way to tell your customer that you have buffed your rusty old (oops... I mean near mint) knife nearly to oblivion: "The final polisher at the Western Cutlery Co. did a little over polishing where the knife is marked at the ricasso WESTERN BOULDER COLO U.S.A. is a little washed out and on the reverse it does not appear that it was ever marked."

Too true Eyegor..and unfortunately the 'end of days' commenced long after the true 'end of days'......try and stand between a basically dishonest person and a Dollar and you'll likely get steamrolled!......and as for those end of days authentication certificates.....I only have one complaint I wish they had been printed on softer paper..right size but little too course for my derriere'......Hoo Roo
