Hello All, my brother and I have recently inherited an extensive schrade knife collection and in my research of each knife I have come across a Gold knife. It is tang stamped Schrade Walden NY USA and I have found that it is a a key knife. The paper work with it says it's from the Schrade Walden Cutlery Corp. and it says the knife is fitted with a Yale key blank. I have taken the key out and it is blank so this tells me it is a mint knife. I cannot tell if it is 24kt gold or not and I cannot see anywhere that it is stamped 24kt. Can anyone tell me any information on this knife like the year it was made and the value? Thank you!

I have never seen a key knife. However, I have seen keys and 24kt gold before.
To answerer half of your question; 24kt gold would not be used to make a key, it would be too soft and would bend and brake while trying to open a lock. At well over $1200 per oz, plus labour to make a key ($2000 or $3000) I would say it would have been gold plated. ($5 - $10)

Refer to the' Distinguished Gentleman' thread I have just re birthed.....the Schrade -Walden gold plated 'Hidden Key Knife' is shown in several photos as I describe, and attempt to answer your questions, in my last post in that thread....likely issued in the late 1950's or 60's.....it is mint complete with original box and embossed gold felt cover..sadly it is gold plated only and the lightest by far of the genuine 14Kt gold Schrade-Walden cousins also shown....good luck punkin...trust this info helps...Hoo Roo
