I was just in a local pawn shop and the guys there showed me a box of old Schrade Knives that they purchased form somebody.

I guess they bought the inventory of somebody whop did knife shows back in the 80's as all the knives are from the 70's and 80s.

There were a few Queen Cutlery pieces but mostly bags and bags of Large Stockman's and Trappers.

If I could get the numbers and get some pictures can you guys guide me as to what is worth getting.

I just want one Large Stockman and one Trapper.

They are all USA made stuff from the 70s and 80s and are not modern counterfeit stuff.

They were both with a brown stag horn type of material and not the white and brown like on the Uncle Henrys and not a derlin like on the Old-Timers.

What is the steel and are they worth having?

where dija say that shop was again? ;)
do what I did recently and select a whole bunch then wave some money in front of the dude so you get a good dealio.

The trapper you show should have 1095 carbon steel blades, and the handle covers appear to be jigged delrin, not bone or stag. These Schrade Waldens are very good knives, and I would get every one of them that came in the plastic packaging you show in the picture, given a good price. How much were they asking for them?

I must apologize as they do not come in the plastic package but just the knife.

He has about a dozen or so of each in sandwich bags.

I believe the handle material is red bone with the part number of 293 for the trapper but I do not guarantee it yet but I will look again tomorrow when I go buy one.

The 3 bladed knife is the Schrade Rancher of unknown part number as of yet but I did see it earlier and it is the red bone handle material or it may be buck bone

I will get pictures tomorrow.

If in good condition, I would say they are worth getting. And having.

Ps This is a Schrade 881 Stockman from the same series. OH

I went back to the pawn shop and he had bags of this new old stock.

I bought 2 knives from him. I paid $70 for the set and I believe that is a hair on the high side but it is new old stock and these knives have never been used.

First is the Schrade Trapper 293 and I gave $40 for it.

Second is the Schrade Stockman/Rancher 881 (I think as I cant see the numbers so well) and I gave $30 for it.

These are new old stock and never been used but I will be using them.

Here are some pictures but before that I should mention that he had some Frontiers, Queen Cutlery, Old Timer Stockman's and Bears that I am not familiar with.

Just a hair of surface rust on the right one.

Two fine knives, especially the 881 (I'm partial to stockmans), and I don't think you overpaid by much. They would have been a better deal in the plastic box, but they are still great American made user knives with excellent carbon blades for less than a new Case. Nice pickup!

I'm not an expert on tang stamps, but pretty sure the NY stamped on the trapper puts it older than the stockman. Here is my pristine in the box 881Y (yellow) from 1975. Your knives have the same synthetic handle covers, just jigged and dyed a different color.
