Hey Guys,

Found a few of these some time ago and had to pick them up to go with my early vintage 20th century collection. Anyone have any like this, or others? Would be interesting to see more.... Much like the coal miners used....

Nice TD:thumbup:

I have a couple I found a few months back, pretty cool that these two most likely hung on the same board as the one you have:cool::thumbup:

Paul,

Awesome! I learned something today. My other tag I mentioned is also number #21. How can that be????? It turns out that Both of mine are from the night shift, Octagon is style. You have both shifts, with the #21 as am shift which is round in style. Your pm shift tag is exactly the same shape as mine. No doubt they hung on the same board, what is really cool is that when your employee #21 checked out, mine was checking in... SO Cool!!!!

Really interesting items, lot of history there and personal lives. They make a fine ornament or prop with knives on display.

Did other cutlers have similar things? Are they rare and very expensive to buy may I ask?

Thanks, Will

Will, I seek these out, mostly looking for Cutlery companies. I find many from industrial manufactures and railroad companies. Many on the bay from steel companies, railroads and manufactures. I don't know the exact useage but I know they somehow tie into checking out tools from the companies tool crib also.

Will, I have been actively collecting for 20 years or so. Rare, I would have to say yes, only seen these from Tidioute Co. offered once a couple years back on the bay. I made offers for $20.00 or so and they were accepted. Not saying you could do this again as to me they are worth every bit the same value as their knives the company produced, I have a few of these knives, but the tags are far and few. IMO these are more rare than the knives themselves which are already hard to find period.

Don,t know if other older companies did the same, however, I would have to say yes they did. I have never seen these offered from any other knife company in this era, but then again it was trash to these companies on their way out of the time.

I feel fortunate to have these as part of my theme of AFVC

Thanks very much for the info, these are fine items that really interest me as I had no idea such things existed.

I know Primble showed some paper time punch cards some time back but these are extremely interesting being made in brass and having the the company name. Real bit of industrial heritage there gents:cool::thumbup:

+ 5K! :thumbup::thumbup:
