I have a vintage tomahawk I need help identifying. Head measures 7 inches from point to edge, overall length is 13 1/2 inches. Total weight minus sheath is 14.2 oz. Sheath is brown finish leather which appears to be 40 to 60 years old. I would appreciate any info you might have. Thanks, Buck

I suggest you try this website which will take some time to look through. There are tons of images and topics. I learned alot by comparing the "repros and fakes" on this website to what is available as "old" on ebay. I'm not questioning the vintage of your tomahawk. I am undoubtedly unqualified to do that. Just a thought, though. I've been fascinated by these things all my life and just recently started trying to learn about them. This website helped a little.

Hello...................
I believe what you have here is a fairly rare KA-BAR Tomahawk. I have two in my collection and they were made with both a spike end like yours and and a model was made with a pole end. Unfortunately I do not have a way to put a picture up of it on here for you all but it is exactly the same. The reason so many of these go unidentified is that only a light KA-BAR Frosty etch with their name inside a arrowhead were used out on the blade. In the stamp it says made for KA-BAR by Wally Lewis. (a partial picture of a canoe in the stamp too.) It rubbed off with little use. They were not hot stamped with the KA-BAR name. I can send you a .jpg privately if you like of mine. I confirmed with KA-BAR several years ago that these were correct and a small machine shop in the area made them for only a couple years for KA-BAR so it is quite rare. My hawk head is 7 inches also. I have a fairly big KA-BAR fixed blade collection. If you contact the KA-BAR collector club at the factory I am sure they will verify the information as they had for me. They were either made in the 50's or 60's ( don't remember off the top of my head) which would correspond with your dating I believe. Whether the sheath is original or not to the hawk I am not sure. It certainly looks period however. Nice piece. I hope that helps.
