Hi Gents. I just found a killer German folder - stockman - from the late 60's - early 70's. The knife is in New Unused condition, with factory polishing on all blades. I opened each blade about 20 degrees, and there is minimum Snap in each blade! It is as the knife has been sitting on a shelf for 40 years and dirt & dust has seeped between all blades, keeping the blades from opening with that great snap! Being a novice knife nut, I don't want to mess this beauty up! The knife has carbon blades, and stag handles. The appears to be no rust in the joints. Please Help!!! What can I do? Thanks!

WD40 is great for loosening sticky blades. Squirt some in, open and close the blades several times, wipe off the WD40. Then lubricate the pivots as desired.

Try something along the lines of simple green, or a citri clean sulution(not citri strip its to strong) and scrub with a new tooth brush or a stiff bristled nylon brush.

If its gummed up clean it first as suggested above. If its just tight oil it with what ever you have handy then clean it after its loosened up and reapply. I stay away from products with solvents these days as they tend to get gummy and recreate the original problem. My best bang for the buck lubricant is Fluid Film.
