vinyl etching stencils

Howdy, I know some folks are using vinyl stickers for etching stencils. The idea is appealing as I can't get a good etch out of my screenprint stencils. But my local sign shop won't do anything smaller than a 1" letter, so no joy there.

Where is everyone else getting them done?

I second Ernie Grospitch stencils. He has made two different stencils for me. Prices are great, turn around time is fast and the quality is excellent. In the past I have used Marking Methods, now Ernie gets my business.

Didn't really think about it, but I have a stencil cutter sitting in "the shop". If there is any interest, I can pick up some vinyl and offer it as a service. Probably run about $15-$25 shipped for and 8x12 sheet depending on how you send the image (Vector files would be a simple button press). If anyone's interested, let me know, and I'll see about it.

Would your stencils be able to have filled centers? Like for letters D and O would there be a big hole, or would it be a line for the letter and a filled center?

Whichever. The filled centers would just be a matter of using transfer paper to lay down the stencil instead of your fingers.

Ernie's stencils are great. All I have to do after I mark is hit the area with like 2000 grit sandpaper for a couple of strokes to clean up the mark and it is crisp and clear.

I've seen lots of recommendations for ernie's stencils, but at this point I'm plain tired of the screenprint material. I might be impatient, I might have a bad stencil, but I know I'm tired of it not working right, or getting liquid between the stencil and the blade and giving a big burn area. Seems like the sticker is likely to work best for me.

This is pretty much what I want, but smaller obviously. No idea how to make it a vector from a .jpg though. Well rough idea, but it's been a few years since I've done anything like that.

Just a couple mouse clicks from JPG to Vector. :)

I'll order some vinyl and whatnot in a few days and see how small I can go. I know I can get small and detailed with thick mylar, but haven't tried vinyl with it. I'll post in my forum if I think it's doable.

Cool. Def. looks cleaner than my MS paint jpeg ;)

The actual vector file is even cleaner. That's the JPG converted to vector (EPS), then converted back to PNG since you can't post vector files. Takes all of 10 seconds with overpriced single purpose software. :)

Would you prefer some free spyware or trojans instead? I can probably find you some downloads that could offer that ;)

You've gotta stop accepting downloads from "questionable" websites. :D
