Hi all.
Has anyone on here got a Viper Free or is thinking of buying one??
The reason I ask is I received mine recently after thinking about it for ages and checking YT for reviews. I was impressed, especially because of the unique locking arrangement.
Once unboxed and opened I was very disappointed and a little confused.
The instructions with the knife and the YT review both state that the slide on top of the knife immobilise the liner lock, effectively turning the knife into a fixed blade.
I have not found this to be the case, in fact after checking thoroughly it would appear that the slide cannot perform this function at all. Is this the case with my knife alone - I'm not sure.
The single steel liner is split into two and the slide causes this rear liner to rotate, forcing the liner lock tighter into the blade. This does make the lock tighter, taking up the slight blade play present, and lowers it into the handle making it less likely to activate by accident but it just does not lock it up completely. I can still unlock mine with the slide fully engaged.
The fact is I love this knife. The finish of the stone washed blade and the G10 handle is superb, it feels great in the hand, blade shape is awesome and now I know how this new liner lock works, I'm more than happy to keep it in my collection. For instance, the slide will always take up any play in the blade no matter how much wear it may have over time, that's a plus!
It just doesn't become a fixed blade.
Has anyone else found this or is it just me?
