Thumbs down on this one unfortunately.
First impression out of the box was positive.
Fit and finish were alright, grind looked ok, all the usual checks...
Then...
The centering looked a wee bit off so I checked for side to side play with the blade closed and there was a bit so I gave the pivot a little tightening.
The lock became so sticky I couldn't unlock it.
So, I've dealt with tens, if not hundreds, of these sticky situations so off I go to fetch the tool kit.
Disassembly: Ouch!...with the red freakin' Loctite. And blue.
Twas a PITA to disassemble but I got everything apart, sorted and up to clean room spec.
Reassembly was simple but still centering was off no matter how many different ways I tried to get it correct.
The standoffs are fitted into the frame so there is zero play there and no way to tweak the centering by massaging the scales a bit.
Pivot is floating between the pivot screws so that's a no brainer as long as the pivot pin is centered in the slabs.
Oh, and the blade was relatively sharp out of the box but the grind is over 20 dps and a little obtuse. That's kind of why this whole process began today was my prepping for the EdgePro treatment to get a proper angle under 20dps for ease of touchups.
Damn, this was my birthday present to myself.
Typical I guess.
Does anyone know the Viper repair shop address?
And no, I don't need a lecture on why I should have returned it....as soon as a tool touches a knife it's yours/mine, and I'm not one to decieve.
I do have a picture of full disassembly that I'll post up soon.
