Just a technical question, free of the usual animus and agenda. Did the Emerson custom MV1 {Viper series} always come only with a thumb stud instead of a disc? His website shows this model as having a stud. Does the design or thickness of the blade preclude the disc?

Eric,
They have come in both configurations. I have seen and manipulated both variations.

The Viper series generally had thumb discs for openers. The Viper 2, which is a 3/4 version of the 1, always had the stud. The only one I haven't seen, so I can't verify either way, is a Viper 4; however, the old catalogues that consisted of Viper models do show it as a disc on that one too. Ernie did make one CQC6 with thumb studs instead of a disc, so it is very possible that he could have also made a variant on a Viper as well. Hope that helps with your interest.

Thanks for the info. My understanding then, is that there are 5 Viper models, although the No. 2 is not currently on his website, and this is the one that always came with the stud. Thanks. Can't find my catalog. It must me with my invoice. {Now there's an important document!}

Negative.
Viper 2 has come w/ "wheel disc". Have owned one and seen others.
Hope that clarifies the issue.
