Anyone an expert on practical knife laws in the Commonwealth that they'd like to share?

I'm personally really confused on what exactly is legal to carry here after I did a bit of research on it online...

For concealed carry, folders of any size are legal, including balisongs so long as you do not express intent to use as a weapon (per a recent Court of Appeals decision). Similar to Maryland, fixed blades tend to fall within a grey area when carried concealed, as the terms "dirk," and "bowie knife" described in the statute are never defined, and so there is a risk of being cited at the very least with the goal that the court sort it out. However, the law only prohibits concealed carry of those, so open carry of fixed blades is legal.

It is illegal to sell or even so much as give as a gift, any "dirk, switchblade knife or bowie knife" to a person under 18 years old. Again, because these terms do not have a definition, it could be applied to any fixed blade. It should be noted that merely having such a knife by a minor is not illegal, so a minor being questioned by police about where he got his knife should exercise his Right to Remain Silent.

It is illegal to so much as own a switchblade, throwing star, or ballistic knife. Note the sneaky language in that it only says they are illegal to sell, but then closes with a statement that mere possession shall be considered as evidence of intent to sell automatically.

can anyone clearify knives on college campuses(NOVA)?
Up to the individual campus. The main difference is that campus policy is not law, meaning you can be fined or expelled, but not arrested.
In my research I have found that most colleges do not adequately publish their campus policy online, so it is up to the individual to consult their student handbook and if necessary, the campus police. I must add that if you ask the police, request to know where what they are telling you is written down, to make sure they are not just guessing or making it up (which happens a lot).
