Knife Rights’ Virginia Switchblade Ban Repeal Bill, SB 758, has been voted out of the Senate Judiciary Committee 13-0.

Knife Rights had led the effort to repeal switchblade bans or restrictions in 18 states, starting with New Hampshire in 2010. Repeals have since been enacted in Alaska, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin.

Altogether, Knife Rights’ efforts have resulted in 34 bills enacted repealing knife bans in 23 states and over 150 cities and towns since 2010

Soooo does that mean that switchblades are legal in VA now? Sorry I don’t understand all the legal political talk

This is good movement for Virginians. This likely means that it will need a full vote on the VA senate floor, followed by a similar vote in the house of delegates. If it gets by both of those hurdles it will go to the Governor's desk for signature and given the new admin here in VA there is a good likelihood that if it gets that far it will get the Gubernatorial sign off.

That being said, (I am not getting overly political here) but the Democrats do still hold a two seat majority in the full senate here in Virginia and they do tend to be less friendly to knife rights, gun rights etc so getting through the full senate will be the biggest hurdle here.

As a Virginian this would be great to have and would justify several purchases that I have been putting off given I can purchase and own automatics and switchblades but the carry of which outside the home for actual daily use is prohibited to this day which makes high dollar purchases not worth it for me in that area.

Will be watching this closely thanks for letting us all know

No, just an important step in the legislative process. Still a long way to go. At a minimum (and simplified), needs to pass the Senate, House Committee, House and be signed by the Governor. Can also get more complicated.

We'll see. You'll note that is passed out of committee 13-0, meaning that we got way more Dems to support it than the minimum needed to pass the full Senate. Nothing is ever simple or easy, bills can go sideways for all sorts of reasons, but we've started off the best we can.

Very true. I just checked and actually 9 of the 13 were Democrats so that is certainly a good start and if they stick to their first vote to bring it out of committee when it comes to pass it through the full body then we are in a very good spot indeed. Really would only need 3 of them to stand firm assuming all GOP members vote yea.
