Hey guys,

At 8:00 a.m. Eastern time this morning, Virtual Knife Show was officially launched! We've already had several makers list knives (it's very easy) and many more are coming.

That's excellent - some very appealing knives right out of the gate.

Got the email and checked it out this morning!

Boy, that Homepage pic is outstanding

It's about time!;):D
Congratulations- I hope it proves to be a great success.

The home page pic was done by Steve Woods. He's a professional photographer (lots of stuff, not just knives) and I've always loved his stuff. He's not cheap, but his photos have a very distinctive look to them - very "moody."

I did not want a flash intro like we're doing for the new ABS site, but in one still image, I wanted to capture the essence of "process." I wanted a couple finished knives, surrounded by the feel of old-world craftsmanship. He nailed it.

Very well done and I anticipate it being a very positive endeavor for the collector from both buying and selling prospectives.

I love that image on the front!

Good thing about this no finger prints all over everything. :) .... or blood.

Nice job guys.

Burt,
I love everything about that site, including your position on procedural issues such as how knives will be shipped, listed, etc. I do have a question though. The one thing I notice about some sites where one could purchase a knife is that they are not updated very often. Most of the time, I see this with some makers' sites. If I see a knife that I would like to purchase, what mechanism do you have in place to let me know that it is still available, or conversely, that it just recently sold? Also, how often can a visitor expect new knives to appear on the site? Will knives be added all at once every so often, or will they be added as they become available for sale?

Thanks!

Burt I checked it out and it looks great I am sure I will be a frequent visitor:thumbup:

Good question. I am a knifemaker and plan on remaining a knifemaker, which means I don't want to sit in front of a computer all day messing with the web site. That's why almost every part of the Available Pieces section of the site is totally automated. When a knife is purchased, it is immediately marked "sold", but it remains in the "available" section. We did this so that when we do the annual show, even when knives are sold, they remain at a maker's "table" so you can look at them. Two weeks after it is sold, it is automatically removed from the Available section and moved to the Archive, which can be accessed from the maker's profile page.

As knives are uploaded by sellers, they are added to the site, so the site is updated constantly with new knives as they are available.

For Phase 2, we're already working on an automated email notification system, where visitors can ask to be notified when certain types of knives are added.

Because of the involvement of so many people and the fact that I keep the eagle eye on everything, updates will be continual and current. You're gonna like it!
