Getting Jesus involved in the virus business is about as low as it gets. I just can't get into the minds of guys who do stuff like this but what I'd like to do to them I am sure Jesus would not approve of. Sick!

Thanks for the heads-up, Bill Oji-chan, but it appears that this one is a hoax:

http://www.umich.edu/~virus-busters/hoaxes/guts.html
http://vil.mcafee.com/dispVirus.asp?virus_k=98307&

I remember there was indeed an inspirational story making the rounds at one point or another entitled "It takes guts to say 'Jesus'", but it didn't contain a virus.

I'm not sure why people make up these fake virus-warnings, but I've gotten hundreds of these over the last few years. Well-intentioned friends send them out all the time. I guess pranksters had to come up with something different after someone came up with the "anti-chain-letter" e-mail.

Things to add to the B.S. meter: phrases like "will erase your entire hard drive", especially if followed by "forward this to everyone you know!"

OTOH, it never pays to get too careless -- our office was hit by the Melissa, ILoveYou, and Anna Kournikova viruses this year, so you do want to be careful about opening attachments!

There IS apparently a new virus out today, so don't open any attachments called "nakedwife.exe". This virus masquerades as a Flash movie from JibJab. Instead it uses Microsoft Outlook (doesn't it *always?*) to send itself to everyone in your address book, then tries to delete all .BMP, .COM, .DLL, .EXE, .INI, and .LOG files in the WINDOWS and WINDOWS\SYSTEM directories.

Here's the link:

Thanks Novadak for clearing up the hoax. WebTV systems can't get viruses, but I get a lot of virus warnings and I have yet to see a real one as I check them out at
http://www.hoaxville.com
or one of their links, as well as the other hoaxes that float around cyberspace.

And many thanks for the heads up on the apparent new virus!!!!

I sent the info to all my computer friends.

Uncle Bill,
I don't know if this is the place, but...
You can get free virus protection at www.cai.com
It is from Computer Associates International, Inc. It is free to individuals but cost for buisnesses. Since I have installed it, I have not had any trouble with viruses. It has real time protection for e-mail and downloads. Once installed you register (for free) and they will send you free updates every couple of days, or you can auto download anytime. They were right on top of the "I love you" virus.
You can't beat the price!

I almost got hit by the 'snow white' virus. One of the mailing lists that I am on got hit by it, then it proceeded to send the message out to the entire list.

Some people really need to get a hobby...

:
I got this back from the warning I sent out to all my computer friends that's not on the forum here.
Perhaps y'all might need this info and want to save it.
Since the WebTV boxes are immune to viruses I don't need it, just trying to be helpful.

For the latest info on computer viruses go to the Symantec AntiVirus
Research Center at:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ind
ex.html

It turns out that this virus is real -- here's the info:
http://service1.symantec.com/sarc/sarc.nsf/html/W32.Naked@mm.html

If I want to know what the latest viruses are out there I go to the URL above (the first one).

Good thing to know if you're a PC user. For Mac users, this virus is not a concern.

Harry

P.S. - Yep, I'm back after a bit of a personal health problem.
