vise

Well, if you want the best then get something like a Wilton... the old American made ones, not the Chinese ones at home improvement stores.

Almost any old, American made vise will be of quality. I second the craigslist recommendation.

Go look at the cheap stuff at places like Lowes, then go look at some old vises listed on craigslist... You'll SEE the difference. :)

EDITED to add---- Um okay, I thought this looked familiar... you asked this same question back in October and got a bunch of answers. Did you just not like the answers you were given???

I have used a cheep one from HF for about 5 years now and it has done everything I've asked of it. I think it was 30 or 40 on sale, but it has been a work horse.

That being said, I might start looking for a bigger one soon

What Nick said! Not cool. People on here share their time and expertise pretty freely. But that's no reason to abuse it.

The deal with the Chinese home improvement vises as well as the even cheaper Chinese vises from places like Harbor Freight is to check it out in person. There is a wide range that passes through QC. You get get a nice, tight vise for dirt cheap, but you have to get your hands on it before paying.

As long as you can get the jaws straight and all of the adjustments are tight you'll probably be happy with a cheapy. If you get one that doesn't line up and the cranks just spin or it wobbles when you have it tightened, you're basically just out whatever you spent.
