I just got a Ratmandu. I love the knife! Excellent size, shape, weight, ergonomics.... It is absolutely gorgeous!

The blade is tanker grey. (I am assuming, because it is definitely grey, and definitely not black) Anyway, I am almost positive I can see a visible temper line on both sides. I don't know how this is possible with the coating on the blade, but that's what it looks like to me! I think it's cool looking.

Am I just seeing things? Take a look at the pics.... Anybody else able to see theirs? And is that what it is? (A temper line?) it is in the exact same area on both sides of the blade:

That's a mark left from the milling machine and RMDs have always been through hardened.

Damn. So it's just a grinding flaw, no cool temper line? Oh well. Do they all have these marks, or did I just get lucky?

Doesn't matter much to me. I love the knife either way!

Most of them have some marks, but yours are symmetrical and that's pretty cool. Not all of them show through the coating like that, though.

I thought it was pretty cool looking. I was thinking for sure it was the heat treat or something since it IS very symmetrical! Oh well, thanks for the info sir. I'm gonna show this thing some tough love next week. Got the week off, going camping with the kids!

I found picture of another knife (SYKCO 511) with the same line. I guess it's pretty common:

Here's another Ratmandu with that same line in the exact same place:

Very interesting!

Only a handful of blades were deferentially heat treated and its no longer being done... Here is a temper line on a Swamp Rat Chopweiler... I had to strip the coating to see it.. Actually thats the ONLY reason i stripped that part of the coating LOL

I think the RMDs with those machining/tooling marks are awesome.

I do too! Makes it very unique. Gives the knife it's own "fingerprint"!

I love my Ratmandu. It's hard to put it down. It's got one of the most comfortable handles I've ever felt on a knife. The whole design is a work of art! It just flows.... Perfect blade length too - barely legal for me! :)

Very nice choppy by the way!

The RMDs blade length is one of the main reasons I love it so much. I am originally from Dallas so I understand your pain.

Yep, for a state with a five inch blade limit you'd think it would be more knife friendly. I get more hard stares from the men in blue when I dare to wear anything larger than a Rat Warden. I'm going to more IWB carry just to keep the harassment to a minimum.

The smallest Swamp knives to receive DHT were M6 and Desert Jack, and they're both have about an inch on RMD.

Patrick and leatherman - it's ridiculous, right? I get funny looks for carrying my 311!

Something that also makes little sense to me is that Bowie knives are illegal in Texas! A state that is forever linked with that knife specifically bans it! I think the second you step into the state you should be issued a big Bowie, a nice pair of boots, and a bottle of bourbon!

I have always thought it funny in Texas you can carry any gun you want but you carry anything other than a folder and you would think you have been transported to New York City.
