Vision w/ diff steels?

I have been looking at my friends Vision for a while and have decided to purchase one. As I am looking into it, I am finding a ton of places to buy them online with the cheapest being around $140 w/ shipping. However, I have noticed that all of these places report the knife having ats34 steel.

sogknives.com says that the vision has vg10. Is it possible that there is a difference, maybe being that the ATS knives are an older version? The price difference is pretty large, and I don't want to pay it if its not a big deal.

I will be using this knife a lot around saltwater and have read that VG10 is a little better for corrosion resistance. But is the difference worth it? Or is there one?

Hi and welcome to BladeForums.

Yes, SOG says that they are using VG-10 in some of their newly produced knives.

It's an interesting question, though, whether ATS-34 or VG-10 is "better".

IMO, they are both excellent stainless steels and I personally would not pay a large premium for one over the other.
Corrosion resistance on both is about the same.

My personal preference, overall, is ATS-34.

But again, they are both excellent.

Welcome, I've had a SOG Night Vision and a Vision for 4 years or so.......both ats-34...........no rust, no problems.

Thanks for the replies. I will be purchasing my first SOG... a Vision w/ ATS 34 Steel very shortly.
