OHIO Knife Knuts,

I'll be in the mid-Ohio area in the week of 8/14/00-8/19/00. I'll be visiting my sister and brother-in-law at a farm between Marengo and Mount Vernon. Does anyone want to get together? I can get to I-71 easily enough and get to The Farmstead or to Der Dutchman, or elsewhere, but I hate trying to drive in a strange city despite living and working in and around Washington, DC*, so going into Columbus is out. I would really be interested in a Knife Knut lunch or supper. If anyone wants to look at one up close, I'll be happy to bring my Sifu, even if I don't usually carry it, it's quite a piece.

James, while I know that this would be more properly located in Community, please, may it be left in the General Discussion forum until 8/11, when I will no longer have access to a computer? That way it will be stand the best chance of being seen. Thanks.

* Or maybe because of it.

I'm not sure if you'd be interested but there is a nice knife making supply shop outside Columbus. It's called Koval Knives in New Albany. I'm sure it's in the phone book. It's definately worth a visit if your into knife making or just like to browse and learn. I think they have a web page but don't know the url off hand. I don't live there so can't meet up but I have family in the Newark/Utica area. Have you ever seen the Indian burial mounds in the area? Have a safe trip.

That's a bad week for me. I would like to get together, but I don't think I'll be able pull it off. If you would have come in the following week, we could have hooked up and gone over to see Darrel Ralph's shop. He is on vacation until the 21st. I was planning on visiting him that week.

Koval's is a good place to stop. Troy has a nice collection of customs, production and some knives he made on display and for sale. They have a good selection of equipment and material. Everytime I go there, I try to figure out a way to buy a grinder and some steel. It's a pretty easy place to find.

Of course, you could always make a slightly longer drive and visit Mark of MJ&S Knives in Circleville. I have never seen so many knives as when I visited Mark's. Take a U-Haul if you go.

If things change, I'll e-mail you.

Unfortunately I will be unlikely to have access to a computer after tonight. If I get lucky and do get access, I will check in.
