My wife and I are in Roanoke for the holiday weekend (we have family here). Since we're going to Gatlinburg, Tn for our vacation this fall, we decided to take a day trip yesterday (it's only 4 hours). We stopped by SMKW on the way there. That place is awesome. They have more knives in one section than most shops have in all of their display cases. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a thing to buy for myself. I was looking for a moderately priced slipjoint, but nothing caught my attention. I'm at the biggest knifeshop in the US and can't find a thing to buy! :(

Oh well, I'll be back through in Oct, maybe I'll find something then :)

My God man, SMKW has one of the biggest selections of slipjoints anywhere. I am amazed that you couldn't find one you liked.

Well, part of my problem is that I set a low budget for myself (less than $40). Plus, I'm picky about fit/finish. Many of the ones that did catch my attention had blades so loose, I wasn't about to spend anything on them. Still, it was nice getting to see some of the knives in person. You can't get a good idea for the size of an Elephant's Toenail until you see one firsthand. Come Oct, I'll go back with a larger budget. :D

also try the "Acorn" in downtown Gatilinburg. Lots of neat knives AND some high prices. Also have Randalls and other customs.
