Off topic but I know theres quite a few of you folks from Maine.
The wife and I will be driving up from Pennsylvania and staying in southern Maine on a friday around Kittery.
Then the next morning stopping by LL Bean in Freeport then making our way up to Castine Maine for the rest of the week.
We will be trekking out toward Bangor, Acadia/Bar Harbor throughout the week and I was just wondering if there was any good flea markets or tool shops
that any of you fellas could recommend during my visit. I know Maine is full of history from logging and all that so I'm going to search for some museums
and such related to that like the one in Potter county PA.

Any advice or tips on good spots for old stuff antiques would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Joe

Well, there's the Liberty Tool Barn, but I know it's changing hands right now so I'm not sure if it's currently in operation or not.

Thank you! I'll be sure to at least swing by there and take a look there appears to be a museum across the road either way could be fun.

I hit Liberty when I was out in Maine in July. Pickins were sparse axe wise. I think it's really hit or miss. I did find a few small tool items in the garage across the street, but that was it. I don't know too many places up there. If you're headed to Castine, say hi to Kate and Zander on the Guildive, which is docked behind Dennett's restaurant. They do charter sails around Castine. It's a great boat to sail on. I'd recommend a sunset sail. Zander also makes rum infusions for Dennett's which are pretty tasty.

Who knew? I happened to be Down East myself this week past... all I saw brush clearing lol. I did get a barco Kelly Perfect from a friend though. When I first saw it in the dark basement, I thought it was an older axe, was a little disappointed to see it in the light as modern. Interesting axe. It has the original handle without a metal wedge. Also the cheeks are thicker than my true temper Perfect. Would have been nice if my homemade sheath fit both but it doesn't.

You should swing by Kittery Trading Post while you're local...everything there under the sun.

Yeah it depends on what they have available at any given time. Some times you strike gold, other times not so much.

Ah ok will do thanks for the heads up. I ate a fine supper at Dennetts last year. Will be back to visit his year again maybe to throw a dollar bill at the ceiling. My wife would love a charter sail.

Is that the big outdoor store there with the two bull moose mounted in it? I was there two years ago if its the same place I don't remember seeing any old tools or anything there.

Definately a good sporting goods store though! Thank you
