Greetings

This is a dream come true. Will be leaving with my wife to visit NYC in 2 weeks time.

So far my searches have lead to the following potential places worth visiting:
a) Paragon Sports on Broadway
b) EZ Pawn (Spyderco Distributor) on Lexington Ave
c) Knives and Enerything Else on 14th Ave Brooklyn

My questions to New Yorkers or others familiar with NY:
1) Are these places worth visiting?
2) Any other places you could recommend

Thanks in advance :)
Andre

Outsiders might think that New York City is the capital of everything. But, boy, would they be in for a surprise. Paragon is the only knife outlet, albeit an over-priced knife outlet, and there is only one, and I mean one, (non-Orvis) fishing tackle shop (Capitol). Outdoor activities don't count for much here. This is an urban environment. The Sports Authorities here don't even carry fishing equipment. You are in the city.

Paragon has an excellent selection of customs and many manufactured knives, but the prices are "up there". Worth a visit, however.

Enjoy your visit to the Big Apple.

Where is EZ Pawn and Knives and everything else? Thanks, I got plenty of time, so mught drop in

Well you can't buy there, but the Arms & Armor room at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art (80-something Street & Fifth Ave)
is a must see.

There is another thread on NY knife shops...might have sunk a page or 3...

Enjoy my home town.

Paragon (18th St. & Broadway, just north of Union Square) is definitely worth a visit. As was mentioned, they have a large selection of hand made and production knives.
They also have a large selection of quality binoculars and night vision devices, outdoor apparal, backpacks, hiking boots, kayaks and outdoor equipment. And yes, they charge top dollar.

They say 'A fool and his money are soon parted'. I suspect that saying is only a rumor because I have bought alot of stuff from them over the years. Couldn't resist.

And, I second the notion; If you are interested in edged weapons of the past, you have to visit the arms and armor section of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (83rd St & Fifth Ave). Enjoy your visit to the Big Apple. :D :D

If you want knives, go to any Sports Authority in Queens or Long Island - selection isn't great but better that Manhattan.
Paragon is best bet: Take any train that goes to 14th Street/Union Square Station, stay on left side of park at 19th Street. While it has many knives for camping and utility, it also has quite a few high end collectors knives.
Orvis at 522 5th Avenue - also high end knives
Tents and Trails - 21 Park Place - haven't been there in a while.
Eastern Mountain Sports - 611 Broadway way down town, F, B, D, Q; 6 at Lafayette St (heard it moved recently) AND 20 West 61st Street.
Otherwise try Canal Street - and beware of ripoffs!
Scuba Network 669 Lexington Avenue (think it is near Rocky Center/51st Street)
