visitor vs private messages

Private messaging seems very evident as to where to use them and they are on everyone's profile. I understand that we only have so many based on our member status. I'm not sure however about visitor messages, am I just not seeing where to post these to each person, or are they not available to all members? Also is there a limited quantity of these?

Clic on a members name, click on "View Profile", and click on the Visitors Messages tab.

Unless I am missing something....
 
BearBug, it is Private Messaging that is only available to paid members.

Some people even use the term Private Message to refer to email, which everyone can use.

Visitor Messages are also available to everiyone but they are not private. Anyone can go to your profiler and read your Visitor Messages.

All of these need to be authorized in your settings.
 
Some people turn off their visitor messaging and disable their email, so getting hold of them at all is a nightmare.
