Visor clip for folder knife?

I am curious if anyone makes (or has make) a clip that will allow you to stow your folder above the visor in your car. Sort of like your garage door opener, only on top of the visor, out of the way (and out of sight) but still handy.

Maybe something that utilizes the existing pocket clip on the knife, but it clips to the device on top of the visor?

I'm sure local law enforcement would not like it much, but it should still be legal if the knife itself is legal...

I'm sure it could be made. Use a bicycle spoke and bend a custom one. There was a good thread on doing pocket clips this way over on the Spyderco forum not long ago.

Why would you want it there? Just out of curiosity. Granted some knives (or maybe it's the pants) like to fall out of the pocket when you sit down, but if that's the case, I usually just drop the knife in the cup holder in my center console.

What could possibly happen in the case of a head-on collision concerns me a little. In a head-on collision your body and the contents of the car continue foward at the speed of impact until something (steering column, windsheild, concrete) acts to stop. But how would the knife react?

Since the clipped folder is so light, chances are when the car comes to a forceful stop (and actually moves backwards a little with the impact) the knife could easily come unclipped and potentially open and make an already bad situation considerably worse. What are the chances of that happening? I don't know. But I'm pretty sure it could happen.

And besides, a knife clipped to the visor is no easier to get to than a knife in the pocket.

All that said... I'm sure you could easily modify an existing clip for this.

One reason for a knife clipped to the visor (a handy tool in a handy place  ):

Visor is attached to a 4x4 Jeep which, unfortunately, is upside-down in the creek you are trying to ford. The seatbelt holds you suspended/inverted and so much stress is on the belt lock, so it won't readily open, that cutting the belt is the best option. The belt is tight around your pocket due to your weight hanging on it now so nothing can be removed from your pocket. You reach to the visor grab your Spyderco, sharp as heck, Rescue and, opening it with your one good hand, cut yourself and your lovely off-road sweetheart free. :)

My Rescue, clipped to the visor of my Wrangler, has the old-school plastic clip and fits nicely on the visor. Happily, it has never been placed into service in panic mode. It is an effective tool kept in a place I might just be able to grab it in a pinch.
