The computer was sick, so full of viruses that it was electronic pus that was pouring out of the USB ports so to speak.

After I got the tech to get Vista up and running I had problems logging in to Bladeforums. Cookies etc were at the right settings but I could not log in yet after playing with the site and lurking I could see that my user name was lit up showing that I was logged on. With further playing by logging on and off over again I actually got on and could post.

Today is another one of those days after not being able to access this site I kept pusing buttons until I got a foot throught the door and squeezed in. I down loaded acrobat reader and flash player.

Okay folks, I need help with this vista, are there any other add ons, settings, or anything else that I need to do to make this thing run properly. I may not be able to log on again as this time was just a fluke.

THE NEXT MACHINE WILL BE A MAC!

get avant browser and use it instead. the problem could be internet explorer. its worth a try.

I have to log off now, if I am gone for a few days then there is a problem with my PC.

I discovered on my little sister's Vista machine that there is a button in the I.E. settings that resets the browser to ground zero. It removes all add-ons, plug-ins or anything else you have deliberately or accidentally installed that affects the browser. It says not to use it unless the browser has stopped responding (which hers had). It worked on hers, so it might be worth a shot. I don't have a Vista machine handy, so I can't really tell you where I found that button (it's been a year ago).

What leads you to believe it was caused by a flaw in Vista? I find Vista pretty secure - even to an annoying degree with the dialogue boxes whenever you want to run a program. What security programs are you running?

I agree, had NO problem at all with it.
Has to be in your security program? I would think?

Good luck.

I managed to finally get on again. This morning I downloaded Avant browser and found that it did not help. Spark sent me an email and I followed his directions by lowering the cookie setting in privacy of the internet tools. Still no go. Then I tried Spark's directions on clicking on the 'remember me' box by the log in box for Blade forums, and that got me in.

I will find out later if the 'remember me box' check in feature has solved the problem.

Anyways here is what I am currently running. I reformated the machine again on Monday. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium. For security I am running Windows Defender, and AVG security suite- anti virus, anti syware, spam and firewall product

. The problem was already there when I was first using just AVG 8 antivirus. I thought the upgrade to the avg security suite might help.

I downloaded macro media plugins Flash player, and adobe reader. I don't know if I need anything else. I have not yet installed Microsoft Office- would that one help?

The AVG and windows defender are conflicting with each other.

get rid of one of them, and that should help.

Avg and Defender problems- that could be a possiblility. Spark's advice has worked. I now check the 'remember me box' and the door opens with no problem. Vista has alot of internal security- some probably bugs that will require more and more patches.

Anyways thanks for the help with this everyone.
