Looking @ a huntsman hardwood. May be infrequently submerged in seawater for a few minutes.

•Will this cause serious/permanent harm to scales?

•If so, is there anyway to prevent or treat it without losing all grip and feel?

Although Vic probably already treats the wooden scales, you'd be better off with plastic scales. I don't like the idea of saltwater getting behind the wooden scales and sitting there.
With either scale choice you should flush out the saltwater with fresh water asap anyway.
