Hey Andy,

I was about to order a VN tactical Tomahawk from 1SKS when I noticed that the handles are different from the one on the ATC site.

Personally, I prefer the handle on the NG ranger hawk.

So which handles are currently being sold with the VN handles.

Thanks,

The handle with the round part on the bottom is the "new" handle on the VN TAC, after feedback was generated that there needed to be more gripping surface, I think. I prefer a handle thickness in between the two, somewhat more oval also, but then we can mod that ourselves with a file/sandpaper/dremel.

The Vietnam Tactical handle pictured at 1SKS is our old handle configuration. I have told Kevin that he needs to update the picture.

It was changed early this year for improved comfort, strength, and simplicity, pursuant to the test results by the Army at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. The short of the long is that we now make a simpler, better handle.

We also made the new handle stronger than its predecessor, by virtue of a threaded rod that acts as an "omni-directional" wedge, so it locks the precision machined lip in the handle over the machined ledge in the eye of the forging. The pre-load (over-compression) is more evenly distributed within the inner circumference the eye. As a result, we have not had even one of the new handles fail or break.

The NG Ranger handle is unchanged from its inception for the most part, with the exception of a small area we leave plain for laser engraving.

Hope this helps...

It is a completely different handle in terms of dimension and assembly.

A full 1 and 1/8th of material is pressfit from the top down in the eye, whereas the VTac holds much less due to the design of the head and is assembled from the bottom up.

Whoops, I indeed have been a lazy bastard. Sorry about the confusion.
