I picked one of these up recently from a dealer (TDE) here on BF. The knife was $29.99.

Here are the specs from the manufacturer.

Steel: AUS-8 @ 58-59 RC
Handle: Glass Injected Zytel
Lock: Liner
Liner: 420j @ 48 RC
Blade Length: 3''
Closed Length: 3.5''
Weight: 2 oz.

My initial impression out of the box was good. The knife is light but feels solid. This is an assisted opener and it opens with authority. I've probably opened it a few hundred times with no trouble. The Zytel handle feels small but comfortable. The texturing is just enough but not overdone. The clip is definitely a low rider. You can hardly see this knife when clipped to a pocket. I like that. The blade has a high hollow grind and is thin at the edge. It was extremely sharp out of the box shaving arm effortlessly. I also was able to push cut newsprint easily. The liner lock is strong and there no vertical blade play. There is a tiny bit of side-to-side movement but not enough for me to care about...it's a $30 knife. I cut up a bunch of cardboard and the knife performed very well...definitely a slicer as the thin edge soared through the cardboard. There is a lot of blade to this little knife. Once the cutting performance started to decrease, a few passes on the strop put the edge right back.

If you have big hands, you may have a tough time with this one. The handle size might not be an issue but you'll likely have a tough time getting your thumb on the stud as there isn't a lot of room there. I have medium sized hands so I don't have any problem opening it.

I would say this is one heck of value at $30. This knife is manufactured in Taiwan and is marked accordingly. The quality is definitely there. I'd love to see a larger version of this knife.

Here are some pics.

Not a bad looking knife, looks easy to sharpen as well. And for thirty bucks, who'd complain?

Great pics and detailed observations. Makes for a great review.

Thanks.

That is a great review and thanks for the plug! I love the knife too! I agree on the size, I am not a big guy and it is a little small for my taste, a couple buddies thought it was a fine size, to each their own. I have talked to them about different models, and being such a small shop, it takes time of course.
Thanks again! paul

I had my brother get me one of these in just to see it for myself.
morrowj's thoughts and mine run pretty similar. Especially about wanting a larger version.
I am going to have bro order me one with the flipper and then also get one of the Autos to try out.
Matt Diskin did a great design job on this one IMO.

The only issue I've run into with this one is the thumbstud. It grabs my pocket sometimes when I'm pulling it out and "whap"....open knife. I'm going to grind it down and smooth the top...hopefully it won't be so grabby.

I bought one about a month ago. Great little knife. Its my EDC ever since. Thanks for the review.

I'm bumping this up since I've been trying to narrow down small, high-value EDC's (including the Kabar Folding Doziers).

I'm certainly liking this particularly because it's small and compact and the "chef's knife" pattern of its blade, a VERY useful shape for EDC. Not too crazy about it being a liner-lock though.

Morrowj, mind giving an update on how it's been holding up? TIA.

It has been holding up just fine. It has been in my vehicle since I posted this review. :)

^Appreciate the prompt response my good sir! I bet she'd rock in the kitchen as a cutter and peeler.

This one is certaily getting high on my cheap-but-high-value EDC list.

I can tell you it has peeled and cut plenty of apples and oranges. It's a good slicer.

I was really surprised how much I liked the Coronado. It is a ton of fun :)

I like my Coronado also. I bought the flipper model and I am glad I did. I find the flipper much easier to use that the thumb studs. It's not a large knife, but that is one of the things I like about it. Although for me the small size makes it hard to use the studs. If you compare it to a Victorinox Spartan, it is roughly the same size when closed. But with the wider blade it has more cutting usage. Zero play, lock up just like in the photo above. Light and carries low in the pocket. All you can see is the clip. I haven't had any trouble with catching the thumb studs or the flipper, in or out of the pocket. For the money I am happy with it.
