I picked up a Volli today from a local store. It is my first BM and I was wondering if there was any particular care I needed to use for maintenance on it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I love the knife so far. Also while doing research on it after I purchased it, I noticed some people do not care for the assist and remove it and the lock. I personally do not see it as much of an issue so far, but only time will tell. Is there an issue with the assist that I also need to be aware of? Sorry for all the questions, but seems reviews and info were fairly limited on this model.

Thanks in advance.

I traded into a Volli that still had the assist in. It had terrible blade play while open. Fairly certain it was the assist that was causing it, but the previous owner may have tried to take it out and put it back in wrong. Not too sure. While closed the blade would hit the cross pin for the lock and left a good dent in the edge. Was unimpressed with it.

I took the assist out and the blade play went away. Sharpened out the dent too. It was alright afterwards but just didn't fit my hand right. And the axis wasn't as smooth the 940 I had or the 950 I still have.

Not a terrible knife, but tthe least impressive axis Benchmade I've had. Could have been a lemon.

Also don't feel assist is necessary for an axis, it's just perfect without it.

The only extra maintenance you may need would be around water. The liners and axis may be susceptible to rust. I've seen it on my 950 and the 111h2o I used to have.

Don't be afraid to add a LITTLE oil to the pivot and axis lock area if you carry it often. In the summer the humidity/presperation can be a constant so a coating on these parts will help. I have carried Benchmades with the Axis lock for years and recently bought my first assisted, a Volli like yours. I liked the knife a lot and found the action very smooth and positive. My problem was all the years of opening and closing the unassisted knives left me having to think to unlock and relock so I moved it. Not for any reason relating to the knife's performance but just too hard to teach this old dog. It is a nice knife and I hope you have years of enjoyment and use.
Frank.

Thanks for the responses and advice. I really appreciate it.
For me the knife feels fluid with no play so far. I have not noticed any indentations in the blade yet due to hitting the cross pin. I am in Houston, TX so the humidity will be an issue. Are there any specific oils that I need to avoid ie. have a negative result with the axis lock or assist spring due to residue or buildup?

Thanks again.

Huey, you want a dry lube that doesn't pickup as much pocket lint like Tuf-Glide. I use it sparingly. We don't have humidity where we currently live, but am moving to Virginia so will see how well my regular stuff works there. The Volli is a strong knife and shouldn't do anything but perform well for you. Reminder it's a slicer and not for prying. I own one a like it a lot. Congrats on your first, and not last Benchmade!

I have a Chiruwa Ang Khola incoming from Himalayan Imports that is warranted as a pry bar so I will reserve the Volli for the slicing lol.
Thanks for the advice I will have to order some of the Tuf-Glide unless you know of some local stores that may carry it.
I am truly loving the feel and action of this Volley.

Ordered some off of Amazon. Do you apply and work the action or do you take the knife apart and lubricated the moving parts?

I've never taken a knife apart; just a drop or two on the action usually does the trick. I find most of the time lubing isn't necessary.
