This thread pertains to the Maker Interviews as described in this thread:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=656885

Lets kick things off by generating a list of interviewers and interviewee's who will volunteer to be part of a thread. We will have additional debate about who interviews who after we have the list in place. Depending on what people want, it might simply be a random process of matchmaking.

We would like the interviewers to provide a list of questions a day or two ahead of time, but I don't think they should be completely beholden to the list. No low blows or complete zingers, but much of the spontaneity would be lost if makers spit out canned answer to everything asked. Likewise, the questions have to pertain to the scope of W&SS with a focus of why particular products by the makers are designed to do outdoorsy kind of things. The interview is not supposed to be an advertisement for widget X. Good interviews will provide something of a character reference of the maker themselves and not focus entirely on products.

The expectation is that most of the interviews will be conducted by phone at an agreed time by both interviewer and maker. This is preferable to sending out questions by e-mail. It also has the benefit of 'breaking the ice' a bit. Getting to know our fellow makers in voice is as good as getting to know them by the words they type. If people are in proximity and want to do a face to face all the better for them. We will also have to establish a time frame over when interviews are expected to occur and when pieces are expected to be published.

Finally, the makers might want to provide the interviewer with pictures to include in their write up. Hopefully the pictures provide more than a 'gallery' type piece of their wares but relate to the scope of the interview. A few character shots, like the one I saw with Scott proudly displaying a fallen Buck would be great too!

It is common courtesy for interviewers to provide the maker an opportunity to fact check something in the final article. It is also courtesy that the knifemaker doesn't try to change the meaning or overly rephrase an article after the fact. After all it is the interviewer's article and post but this also means that the interviewer must adhere to a proper moral and ethical code of conduct i.e. be truthful to the interview.

So we have plenty more time to formalize and discuss the rules and method of the interview process and the subsequent posting of such pieces. Perhaps it is best to keep that conversation to the above posted thread. Lets keep this one as a list of makers and interviewer volunteers.

Lets start with 10 Knifemakers and 10 Interviewers. To qualify as a knifemaker you have to have knifemaker status. To qualify as an interviewer you should be a regular poster at W&SS.

I still have a hard time thinking of myself as a "knifemaker." IMO, I am a woods bum :D

There are a lot of other folks who have been around a lot longer than me. So, I think they should get priority. However, I always like talking about this stuff. So, if you need to fill up spots, and there is interest in me, of course I would do it.

I'd be up for interviewing sombody, but I'd rather not be one of the first ones, I'd like to see how some other people do it first.

I've been puttering around with knives since I could walk, making them for a few years, and only got really serious about learning how to do it right in the last 2 years. If y'all are interested n a relative newcomer's point-of-view, I'd be happy to participate.

I sure do love to talk about knives, designs, and techniques. I'm in if you'll have me. :)

Like I said in the previous thread about this, I rarely get to talk knives/outdoors with folks around here so I'm in if you'll have me.
