Well I put the Badger through my initial battery of torment for two days. I expected to see some signs of weekness, but as I wiped the sweet of my brow, and took a closer look, he looked much the same as the day he arrived. Come on guys got to be a nick or two in the edge, some scratches. Absolutely none, well maybe a little scratch, but no nicks. Rather than put him (me) through more aggravation I decided I will have the last laugh. See how he likes a .223 in the side. So with high noon approaching, and no reprieve phone call from the Governor. Mr Badger, without a whimper took one in the side for all you hogs. To my amazment he didn't shatter in a bunch of pieces, but just made a .223 sized hole. There is nothing else I care to do, but send him back to Keyport, NJ.
OK sceptical in the beginning, and surprised at the results. Do you think I might want to have at least one Busse in my future? I say to my EDC move over, there's a new HOG in town. I just made 2 trades, and have a Active Duty, and a Jungle Defender on there way. Found another I my just have to buy. I will guarantee you I may not always have 2 or 3, but I assure you I will always have at least one close by. Will I ever have to use one in a emergency? Probably not, but I have no doubt it won't fail me if I ever do. Much thanks to my friend Voracious for loaning me his Busse, and giving me free reign to do whatever I wanted to do to it. Some might say I could have done more, but why waist my time. Remember the old Timex commercial.? Yep! that's what I think. Thank all you Hogs for your friendly reception to your forum.

Glad you found the experience beneficial and enlightening.

I do think you have stumbled on the method for creating the talon holes...

On the one hand, I think that shooting the Anorexic Badger was pointless intentional damage to a valuable knife. On the other hand, you have shown an astonishing result which really does make a dramatic case about the unusual properties of INFI, in regard to toughness at high hardness.

So..thank you. And congratulations on your incoming knives.

P.S. It would be informative if you now did the same shooting test on another brand knife (or several) of same thickness and similar geometry, for comparison. Any chance of that?

A couple of more holes and it could be one of those fancy cheese slicers!

Need coffee... Evolute, I'll see what I can scrounge (sp?) up round here. Gimme around a month and I should have 2-4 pieces to send to herbie to shoot. :)

I call photoshop on the bullet hole.

Not that I do not think the BA3 couldn't take it, I just don't think Jay can shoot that good. :p

i don't think so. :grumpy:
i doubt it will hurt performance, though. :)

Wow! If that's a real pic, that's amazing. I've seen several knives shot, and they all shatter like glass. Although I agree it's kind of messed up you shot a guys knife who was nice enough to lend it to you, the outcome of the experiment is groundbreaking!!

David,
I think Polly must of told on me. I will say no more at present. Already anticipating the heat.
Nothing wrong with my shootin' though.
Need any holes on your new Covington. You could of told me where you wanted them before I shipped. Only charge you extra for the .223's. I believe $2.99 for 6 holes.

Well, in all fairness Jody "did" tell him to shoot the little rascal, in fact he sorta insisted:cool: Jody, we want nice clear macro pictures of that hole in the blade, I'm really curious as to what that hole looks like up close and personal.

I would have expected the blade on that anorexic badger to snap in half at least, the last thing I thought would happen is having a nice clean looking hole like that in 60 RC steel. At what range was it hit, how was it clamped down, did you really use AP bullets?? All sortsa fun stuff :p

It looks like the knife is still perfectly functional though, but you might wanna have it checked for propagation cracks before it's used for anything more than light cutting.

The carpet probably looks different due to lack of proper lighting through the hole.

I have done quite a bit of shooting with Jay and can assure you guys that he's an excellent marksman. I also know that he has zero photoshop skills. The plot thickens. Or does it?

HERBIEDUKE,

Are you going to post a write-up in the Knife Reviews & Testing forum?

i did pretty much insist. and what you see was the expected result. actually i expected at least a little deformation, a bend or something.
i saw nugent shoot a steel plate with a .220 swift i think at around 4000 fps, burned a hole looked just that one. i don't think he was using steel core. and the plate wasn't tempered.

Please tell me this is a joke, right? Aw man, don't shoot the knives!! I know it's frustrating when it keeps laughing at you, but you didn't have to go there.

Some of you had the right idea when they noticed where is the rug on the other side of the hole. May be just a dark shadow in the hole you think?. I said later to ASP that although the hole looked pretty good, I should of put the knife on a black back ground. In the end with permission or not, I couldn't do it.

Interesting the Busse warrantee was brought up. Jody don't need no stickin' warrantee. Can't you hear the conversation. "Hello Mr Busse, I have a problem JB, and my knife doesn't work anymore, and it's under warrantee. What's the problem Jody. Well I had a friend blew it up, and it doesn't work any more." BZZZZZZZZZ..... Sorry sir you have been disconnected.

Voracious, HERBIEDUKE,

When we meet, remind me to buy you guys beers...

(and then spill them all over you) :p
