Here are the four contestants for "Best Urban PSK." I will leave the voting poll open for 5 days, at that time the winner should be chosen. Each person gets one vote. Good luck!

gradall5200

Ok here's mine. I struggled a bit as I always try to do everything " survival style" but I got my head around this and put it together and I think I may actually use it..??!!
Here she is all closed up and its all inside...

All the items...

and here's what I got

2-7x4.5 sheets of note pad paper folded up
pre packaged motrin
2 pieces of trident
Floss/ tooth pick
Christmas tree brush( tooth cleaning device)
2 bandaids
mini 4gb flash drive/ usb
1 prepackaged hand cleaning wipe
retractable phone charger
p38
2 paperclips
1 safety pin
$20
mini tweezers from a sak
tube of neosporin
leatherman squirt
mini ink pen which I made by cutting it down to "tin size" ( forgot to include it on the last photo
I did not include a flashlight cause I carry a mini in my pocket everyday just like my knife.

curth

My thoughts are to have the essential tools in my pockets, most other items are easily available in an urban environment.
All items fit in the pockets without being uncomfortable.

Saddleback wallet with cash and debit card
Hogue EX02
SAK rambler(I like this one because of the phillips)
Fenix EO1 flashlight
Bic wrapped with artificial sinew and a needle
Gerber Artifact
Rite in the Rain tablet
Fisher Space pen(not pictured because one of my kids must have "borrowed" it.

Like most have said it took me a second to realize the purpose of the contest and had to take out three different ways to make fire :) After I got over the impulse to post a picture of an Altoids tin full of Altoids I finally came up with one.
I decided to make one that would help anyone out in a city, legal, perhaps one they don't' know very well. I also wanted to make sure it could be packed in any number of ways. I've made one or two of these based on other threads we've probably all seen but my efforts have all had the same problem i.e trying to cram it all back into the tin on the street! Anyway I purposefully left open space so it's easy to put it back and close without much thought.

The tin, closed :)

I like to bring along an elastic band for all kinds of reasons but also to stick with the same idea. it doesn't need the band to stay closed but if I have to pack quick or add something quick this can hold it closed until i can re-organize if I have to. Simple but time saving :D

List of stuff:

(1) Shortened pencil with eraser
(1) Small sowing kit with different coloured threads and needle
(1) Leatherman Micra for all cutting, opening etc needs
(1) Monies - 20
(1) Elastic band
(1) Button compasss from countrycomm (tony, but it works!)
(2) Quick clean antiseptic whips for all purpose cleaning or cut preparation
(2) Different types of generic pain medication
(3) Band aids (actualy I've loaded it up with twice this to take on my trip this weekend, loving the extra space for speed BTW)
(3) Chewing gums, (donated by outdoorsfan not so long ago)
(4) Quarters for when or if you find a pay phone
(10) Stormproof matches bound up with reversed electrical tap so they can stick to the lid of the tin for more storage options

I should also say that I electrical taped the strike zone from the match box to the top of the lid.

not just because being able to make Fire is good survival, but because my zippo always seems to run out just when I can refill it easily.

mykel m

It all fits in my jeans front pocket, more than I like to carry in one pocket, but it do fit no prob.
The items on the left are always with me.

Kershaw shallot, because a one hand opener just makes sense plus it's so slim & light.
The AAA flashlight for obvious reasons..finding things in the dark or signaling in an emergency.
The mini Bic for my smokes & burning secret messages from headquarters.;)
The GEC Ebony Pemberton just because I like it!
And my lucky Smokey Bear coin.

2 butterfly bandaids
1 sting relief wipe
1 antiseptic wound wipe
1 alcohol wipe
1 small pack of triple antibiotic ointment
2 Pepto-Bismols(for the bad water;))
3 antihistamines(in case I get stung by a bee,hasn't happened in over 40 years,but ya never know)
1 antacid(for the heartburn)
1 eyeglass repair kit
A Vic Classic for the tools, limited though they are.
And a back up Bic.

I voted gradall5200 mostly 'cause he includes a flash drive, a very useful device in that kinda environment, I keep one with me in my wallet, used it many times to get music, pictures, programs from friends to put on my computer later.

BTW, all great PSKs folks.

Hi Guys -

I really wish I had taken the time to put one of these together - actually, just shown the one I carry with me in my man-bag!

I finally decided, after much thought, that KYenglish had the bases covered.

I like gradall and curth - gradall was my close second, and curth and mykel both had great kits, but I thought each lacked at least one important item.

Each kit should have something to write on and with, and very important is personal hygiene items , which all of the guys had thought about.

It was very close - each kit was very well thought out, and in the end, what took my vote was the coins in KYe's kit. Have you ever been somewhere where all you had was a 20 bill and no coins, and there was a vendo-machine that only took coins?

This was an urban survival kit, and to me, coins might be a necessity-

Well done, gentlemen - and John, I promise if you do this again, I will put a kit together for the contest.

best regards

mqqn

I gave to Ky mainly for the cash and coins. payphones will usually always work when cell lines are down and the vast majority of folks never have cash on them anymore but with power out and stuff like that cash will be king.

I was at a subway restaraunt the other day and the credit card machine was down. about 6 folks came in and left with no food

Tough choice all the way around and some great ideas on what to include to start a kit of your own.

I went with gradall's because of his considerations to accommodate technology. Communications in an urban area has become more than a convenience in many common situations.

Well,I apparently should have voted for myself ,but I went with gladall's also-because of the charger.(didn't know they made a charging cord that small, pretty cool.)

Well hell, I voted for myself because at the time it looked like I'd be the only one. Y'all are crazy :)

KYenglish is the winner! I`ll bring your prize next weekend. Thanks to you guys who participated, gave me some good ideas.

WOW, awesome. That's my first ever win, and a great one to!

Thanks to everyone who voted.

Congrats Peter, and thanks John for the neat contest.

I would note to the person with the 20... probably best to split that into 3 x 5$ and 5 x 1$... someone will always accept that combo for 20, but in an emergency they may not have change, or you may be buying something small from some person who is not a business. can't imagine it would take up too much extra room.

thanks grunt, neat idea Knedgecko, I think that might be too much extra to be honest but a 5 and some ones might make it

Good thought, tired it, wouldnt fit my kit.
