Who likes the English initials and who likes the Napali ones (the way HI is written) on their kukris? I just saw a pic of a villager and liked the Napali initials, so that's my vote. What do you guys think?

You mean the kami's initials (never, mind, I just reread your post and see what you mean). I've got to vote for the Devangari initials as well, they help add to the khukuri mystique. Besides their amazing functionality, the thing I love best about khukuris is their exotic (to us) origins. Even the uninitiated can usually immediately tell that they aren't domestic blades.

Yes, I would prefer something authentic as well.
Though I have nothing against someone initializing one in english if that is his/her preferred language.

Uncle Bill has tried to get the Devangari initials on the blades but the Kamis tend to do what they want.

I dont think we have much of a choice on this one guys. From what I understand those Kamis make what they want, when they want, and how they want.

All their stuff is great, it is just that they make what they feel like making. They are artists, and the problem is that they know they are artists.

They are artists, and the problem is that they know they are artists.

That's also the upside, as Uncle Bill says it is a love/hate relationship. I've got nothing but love for them though, and sadly not enough cash or I'd make them all millionares!

I like the looks of the Nepali initials, but they may use English characters to differentiate blades for export prior to finishing. A 20" AK Villager I have is 1.5 - 2 lbs below spec. for such khuks, and it may have been thought that HI would not accept it - so it was placed in the "villager" category. No point in putting a magic stone finish on something which might be sold locally to someone who may consider excessive shineyness silly.

I don't know, either way they do it,,,. I guess since the Kamis are illiterate, it probably doesn't mean the same to them. Have both and in a way kinda like the devanagari initials but, hmmm. Guess I'll vote for the devanagari. I can't read them either so maybe that will make it even!:D

Maybe the english lettering should be abit smaller than the Devangari. With the Devangari on top of the english version.

Devangari

Maybe the english letters with more straight lines are easier.

We are lucky they put anything on the blades. They consider this extra work for no good reason.

Hayv!!!! I think what Bill means by the above is that we're gonna get what we get, and are lucky to get that.:)

I'm not going to complain about the khuks either way but, Kumar on my 12" AK Villager didn't use english letters and it surely did give the khuk a bit of class. Just my opinion.:)
