Hi all, have had this Hawk for 18 months and use it every day through the winter next to my fire place to split small logs. Love the design and construction but the original scales were not very comfortable even with a wrap of paracord. Made and fitted some oak scales and the axe is transformed. Feels so nice in the hand and i think looks nice as well. Old school Oak meeting new schools SK5. Modified the sheath as well so the Hawk can drop out the bottom for quick release.

Nice job on the re-handling.

Have you used a hatchet much? If you have, how would you compare a solid wooden haft to that 'hawk?

Yes have a few axes of varying size. A 30cm 650g (12" 1.25lb) hatchet is smiler to this Hawk in size but they are quite different. The hatchet is the better wood tool as its more weight forward and has a wider head. For chopping and splitting its ahead of the hawk, the Hawk can do these things but not quite as well (thinner head and weight is more spread out). The Hawk beets the hatchet in that it could be used as a breaching tool or pry bar given its construction. I also think, no experience, the thinner head would do more damage if used as a weapon, i guess this is what they originally were for. Its also a cool looking toy and lets face it that's what most of us buy them for :-)

Nice hawk. I use my hawk on jobs that other tools are better suited to also. Welcome aboard.
