I'm trying to decide between them, but worry the clip point might be too wide and be uncomfortable for edc. Unfortunately I have no way to physically see both before purchase. Any information on pocketability of either is appreciated. Thanks.
I have both (of course ). Its hard to quantify, but the clip point blade is a little larger in the pocket than the tanto, the latter of which is flat all the way down the spine. Both are big, honkin', manly-man knives for sure. My down and dirty ruler measurement says that the clip point is 3/8" taller (when closed) than the tanto. And also "taller" down the entire length of the blade, if that makes sense. Best I can say is that its a small but significant difference, but you might just want to pick whether you like clip or tanto better, and go with that.
Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to see:thumbup:. I like both and see their usefulness, although I think the clip point is more of an all arounder.
Since you have both and know their use; which do you carry the most?
I honestly don't carry either one of them too much, mostly because I have maybe 120 knives competing for my pocket time. For me, these giant Cold Steel knives are mostly just fun toys, as I don't have any real excuse for carrying something this big. They certainly have a utility all their own, and if I needed to hack the arm off of an Orc these would do the trick, but when I do carry them it is mostly just for fun.
Got the clip point. Surprised as how light it felt, easy to open with the thumb stud or quick flick, but it didn't seem big and felt quite unobtrusive in front jean pocket. Thanks again.
