A few of my favorite things! There are 3 prototype VTACs here.....can you tell which ones they are? Probably not, the changes are internal. Leave it to Fehrman to take a fabulous time tested and proven tomahawk and attempt to make it even better.....if that's even possible.

I have the honor of testing these prototypes and taking them to their absolute limits and breaking points....literally. As I have written about many times before, in my opinion, the VTAC has very few shortcomings. Extremely functional, nearly indestructible, perfectly balanced and handles like an absolute dream.

If one had to really get fussy and have to pick it apart, it could be said that the internal bolt could potentially be a weak point if it was really stressed for a period of time. Not that this has been an issue, but just so it never becomes one, even beefier components may be being used in the future.

Notice any difference? That bolt is stout......really stout. The VTAC was pretty much unbreakable before, but if these bolts don't interfere with the handle......watch out!

I actually have one of their handles in a fixed press right now being bent at about 40 degrees (way more flex than it would ever encounter in any real world exercise). It's been in the press for several days now and no ill effects what so ever.

I will be spending the next few weeks trying to break a few of these models and seeing what these bolts are capable of. Going to have fun doing it!

Thanks for the pics.

I wish Fehrman would make a longer handle an option. I think it's a great design other than it's too short for what I want it for. A handle around 20"-22" would work better for me as a woods tool.

I spoke with Andy from Fehrman sometime ago and dimension modifications (to me it's just perfect the way it is) came up in the conversation. They were adamant about staying true to the original design.....which I can appreciate. A number of years ago, the size of the head was ever so slightly reduced to meet military specs of whatever sort it was but the reduction in size was negligible and you would probably need a computer to simulate any loss of potential energy from the smaller design. Other than that, and obviously the upgraded composite handle, this is the true LaGana design and as far as I know there won't be any changes any time soon.

Cool! Looking forward to what your testing turns up.

I know that with the original design, combat throwing was a design consideration, as well as compactness and light weight. Without being any kind of expert thrower, I'm hazarding a guess that a longer handle would affect that part of the design.

I bought a Cold Steel and an ATC several years back, and they practically throw themselves.

Sounds like fun. I have beat up a few of these over the years and still love'em.
Have collected A.T.C. for several years great product....

Long time no see on the forum Dusty. If anyone wants to see a REAL collection of VTACs......Dustys got it! He has a very impressive collection.

Snakebreaker put an album at my profile of some of my collection...

Feel free to show them here in this thread If you like. Wouldn't bother me a bit. That way it will show the full evolution of the VTAC from past to most recent. Considering the possible change in the future I think it would be very relevant to post the pics
