Vulcan 50lb anvil question

Hello,
from researching a bit on Vulcan, is the plate on top of the envil in this pic original?

It has a broken piece on it, but still has a "ping" to it.

I'm just an amature hack anyways- so I plan on using this thing

any tips or comments appreciated.

You mean this anvil?

It definitely looks to me like several old Vulcans I've seen, they were a cast anvil with a tool steel top like Fisher-Norris, but for some reason the bond on the faceplate did not take as well and you will often see them in this condition. Although, that faceplate looks a little thin...

It's still a way better anvil than any modern ASO, looks like there is some use left in it for sure.
