Is the Vulcan made in Taiwan like some of the fixed blades? I am seriously considering a full size vulcan as a carry piece. I do alot of cycling and mountain biking and use my knives pretty hard. Should I take the plunge and get a vulcan? Your opinions, testimonies would be appreciated.

The Vulcan is made in Seki Japan. I can't give you my personal experience though since I don't have the knife but quite a few people have it around here

As johnu2 said it is indeed made in Japan.
It's really smooth opening/closing knife, well made, and for me another keeper.
Being you are mountain biking, I was think that maybe the Ageis would serve you better, as it's very light weight knife. The Vulcan is somewhat heaver, which in my case doesn't matter ..

I bought a Vulcan when they first came out. Excellent knife  Since you do a lot of riding, I would recommend calling up SOG and asking for extra pocket clips. They will ask for your name and address and send you a pair for free :) This way if you snag it on something while riding you will have a spare.

It is a strong, sturdy knife. It sits deep in the pocket, is very smooth to open and close. I actually found it a lot smoother than any axis lock I've ever owned. The Arc-Lock is one of the best in the business and I would highly recommend this knife for outdoor use.

And it's perfectly legal anywhere but New York  3.5" blade and .16" thick, you can't go wrong with that. Mine has zero blade play and even though the pivot is tightened, it's still smooth on the opening.

Good luck shopping, J.

I've had my Vulcan since Dec. of 07. Sharp right out of the box. It has been carried every day since. Very smooth operating. A very solid built knife. I am very happy with the knife.

I picked up a Mini Vulcan and like the others have said it is great knife. Very sharp out of the box and it has been used on cardboard boxes, plastic banding and even .010" brass wire and the edge is still holding up just fine. Haven't had to touch it up at all.
