Vulkanus Sharpener?

Has anyone used Bokers Vulknanus...I was curious as to how well it worked?

Aloha UFMetalEng,

Good to have you here...

I have used the Large Vulkanus...puts a pretty good edge on my kitchen knives in a snap.

I also recently got the Field Vulkanus. Very nice, compact package.

However, and this is probably just me :o , but I can get a good working edge on my knives again, but not a razor sharp edge. I probably gotta get used to using it. So in other words, I can get a good enough edge for pulling type cuts, but not for push cutting.

Hope this helps.

God bless:thumbup:

Hi Chad,

Curious to know how the Vulkanus works on your Honey Biscuits?- I figure you would know best.

Thanks and God Bless!

Aloha billy1,

Hmmmmmm, in all honesty, I am not sure.:o Normally, I just either strop it on a fine leather strop from JDSpydo OR I give it a couple swipes on my Spyderco 701, white stones only.

I got a co-worker who will be testing the Field version of the Vulkanus on his SF...so will keep you posted.

I think the tricky thing about using the Vulkanus is that they are "spring loaded"...over at the Boker site, they DO have an interesting video demonstrating it.

God bless and nice seeing you:thumbup:

Aloha Chad,

Ended up stropping serrations of my Honey Buscuit using leather shoelace that I rubbed down with polishing compound. This method worked very well for me:D
Still looking forward to a Blueberry buscuit;)

Keep those Buscuits coming!

I've got a vulkanus . I prefer a spyderco sharpmaker. Why?? it chips up xt-15-n and s30v steel . Even softer steels like kitchenknives dont get a keen edge. Maybe mine isn't proper??? maybe just one of the two diamond squares is not fabrication ex factory checked??

Aloha Maarten,

Whoa!!! THAT doesn't sound right...yours *may* be defective! I can get a good working edge on all my kitchen knives, tried it on my Boker HK drop point folder made out of X15, and no chips.

I cannot get a razor sharp "push cutting" edge, but I can get a good working, toothy edge using the Vulkanus.

Which version do you have?

God bless:thumbup:
