dear listmembers , does anyone on the list have an opion on paul vunak's R.A.T. system [ rapid assault tactics ] ----i think [ from picture sequences in INSIDE KUNG FU ,BLACK BELT that it cuts through all fat and leaves the real meat of j.k.d., kali, muay thai, pananjackman----it is very similiar to the o 'neill system of h2h put together for the devil's brigade [ finger jabs, into kicks, into elbows and knees and then a bulldog [ head twist ] takedown or a cross hock [ osotogari ] takedown --i think mr. vunak has come up with something very good that re-invents the older system --it is ballistic , moves forward ---i can see this system as nice future for self defense j.k.d./kali , any thoughts ?-----ralph grasso
 
Jeff Clancy at DEA thinks enough of it that it has become part of the curriculum at Quantico. Paul's done a good job of streamlining the Southeast asian arts into a quickly learnable system that could be taught in a block to soldiers and cops. From what I understand, RAT is also favored by many east coast SEALS.
 
A couple of the guys with whom I train are instructors under Vunak. I have had some exposure to the system and was impressed. I especially like the fact that the basics can be taught to people in a relatively short period of time. In another thread, I mentioned a couple instances in which one of the guys used Paul's training on the street, with positive results.
