I finished this knife a couple of weeks ago but never posted it,
This is one that I'll have at the blade show. The blade is 10 1/2" long
1 3/4" wide.with a nice temper line
416 stainless guard & ferrule with desert ironwood handle overall lenght
16 1/2". The sheath has a lizard skin inlay with a damascus Frog with file work. Very fast in the hand for a large knife.

KUMBAYA!

I love the knife, but I am not 100% sold on the recurve on this particular design.

A+ Shawn!

I'd like to see some shots of the hamon.

Sweet handle shape and killer wood. Have you and Knight been working on your campaign against pins? ;) lol

Did you do the sheath too? That's a gorgeous sheath... love the inlay and it compliments the knife VERY well to make an all around awesome package.

Keep 'em coming Shawn! :D

Great things are coming off your bench Shawn...I'll enjoy Handling that one at Blade

BUT(:D) the flare on the handle end seems to really be competing with the sleek blade.

There are two things that might make a difference for the next version:

1. Keep the flare, but belly out the 1/3 of the area towards the tip OR

2. Shave the front(finger)flared portion of the handle down, and pull the clip back to about midpoint.

There are so many ways to approach something as simple as a slim bowie/fighter, but these are just two suggestions.

It is a good looking knife, and has some differences that would make it stand out on a table with the "usual".

Jason Knight does a handle flare like this frequently, but there is usally a big honkin' chopper blade attached to it.

Kumbaya.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Great handle material, like the progressive blade profile, recurve, but with STeven on the handle flare. Seems to work against the rest. Very nice sheath and knife.

10 1/2 x 1 3/4 doesn't qualify as big or honkin'??!?!?!?:D

I definitely like the recurve - it gives this blade some visual drama. Not that a straight edge would be boring, but it would result in a very a traditional profile that we see quite a bit. I do agree that the handle flare could be trimmed down a bit for better visual balance.

Really nice work Shawn.

Hey Not for Nothing..
Arent Handles meant to hold? Thats a lot of steel to wield
That flare will offer nice security and leverage and is still ample enough to choke up on if need be...not disagreeing that visually it may compete some with the overall flow..but Handles of this shape are purpose built for performance no?
maker states this knife is fast for a big piece that handle has alot to do with blade quickness
so are we offering critique from an "art' prospective or "practical"

(and did I just open a can of worms ...forgive me)

I like a slight recurve, but there is something about the combination of the recurve and the shape of the clip that isn't working for me. As far as I'm concerned, the handle is just fine.
