Just a quick review of the W.A. Surls Quartermaster. I won this knife in a very generous giveaway from Allen. It truly is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship.
Its a 7 OAL with a 3 blade, hollow ground on 3/32 cpm154. The handle is Ironwood burl with 416ss bolsters and a mosaic pin.
The 7 OAL is great for every day carry and use. The blade profile is perfect for all kinds of everyday tasks that face a pocket knife or small fixed blade. Ive only had it for a couple of weeks and havent felt a need to test it but its done all my basic knife tasks. It even served me well at a large cook out that only had plastic cutlery. I was the only one without a mangled plate at the end.
Im planning on having an ISP sheath made for it but for right now it fits fairly well in the small Bark River bushcraft sheath.
Definitely a gentlemans fixed blade. Allen has done a great job combining the old with the new. The traditional look of the stainless bolsters combined with the tapered tang and well contoured handle make for one sweet knife. Out of all the knives I carry, this one gets the most Hey, what kind of knife is that?s.
I want to thank Allen for such a generous giveaway. I have 6 of Allens knives and he does excellent work. This Quartermaster is an excellent example of that.
