Hi

I would like to ask about prices of Case knives in between '20 and '60. If you remember that write below price and date please. Maybe you know how much your dad or grandad paid for knives. I want to check a real value compared to salaries or wages.

Thank you

There are 100's of variations between all the patterns and handle materials. That would be interesting to see what the original selling price was. You may have better luck collecting the sales catalog from each year, and seeing what the price is listed at.

Sorry, all my old Case knives were bought 2nd hand (or 3rd or 4th or 5th...) so I don't have any numbers to contribute.

Hi. I've checked catalogs I could find online but it's not easy to find Case's ones from that time. I know there is many variations of scales etc. but if anybody tells me even one this gives me point to start.

I have Case price lists from 1933-2000

Let me know what pattern you want to see the prices for. I put up a post about this quite awhile ago.

Stockman 6318 would be great, regular trapper amber bone and sodbuster Jr :-) thank you

The Sodbuster Jr was added to Case's catalog sometime around the 70s. "Amber bone" is also more modern than 1920-1960. But "green bone" and red bone trappers have been around a long time.

Ok. So maybe some medium Stockman and regular trapper with bone. Colour and jigging pattern doesn't matter to me.

Sounds interesting. Let us know how your comparisons turn out.

If you decide to look at other brands as well, there are some catalogs with prices in the catalogs topic that is pinned to the top of the forum. I have some old hardware store catalogs and I may also be able to help with 1920-1960 prices for other brands.

Here are the list prices for a 6318 Sh Sp. That's a good pattern to reference since the basic version has been produced continuously by Case since the WWI era. A few of the years had two price lists. I have nothing past 1995, but the current retail price is from a popular website.

Thanks for the interesting price data, cilohaefink!
If I go to an online inflation calculator (e.g. http://www.usinflationcalculator.com)
I find that something that cost $2 in 1931 should cost $31.48 in 2016 if its cost is inflated according to the "official" inflation rates over that time interval.
Am I missing something here, or have Case 6318 prices gone up much faster than would be expected? (Or is my randomly-selected inflation calculator a piece of junk?)

I think their profit margins have increased 2x what inflation shows :)

Pretty neat data. I wish I could go back in time and buy 50 of those 1931 models, and keep them in mint shape until 2016 hehe
