Here is one that I finished recently. I'll have this one at the Arkansas Show this weekend. It's a circa 1840 Butcher bowie. The original was made by William and Samuel Butcher of Sheffield, England. The blade is 7 inches and the OAL is right at 13 1/2 inches. The fittings are German Silver and the scales are Ivory. Thanks, Lin

I like seeing modern renditions of classic antique designs. Well done!

That's a beauty. When I see a knife like this it always makes me start thinking about getting myself a period piece.

Very cool, sir! is it a frame handle or full tang?

You're definately going to have plenty of quality on the table this week. Look forward to seeing you all of your lastest in person. Nice Job!

Robert,
They say knife making is addictive, which is true, but the early American knives can be too all on their own. When I make one of them I am able to figure out what the original makers must have been thinking when they made theirs. Part of the fun is investigating the particulars on the knife, the blade length, handle thickness, etc. Sometimes you just dont have an original to hold in your hand for a reference.
Even though I work here in the museum, I cant just walk up and handle the knives. But, I can study them through the glass. :D Lin
