I picked up an 85 RX-7 Gs today. I have only one thing to say about it...

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

My god this car is so much better than the Buick Park Ave I've been slogging around in day-to-day. Its very different from my other baby, a 1965 Lincoln Continental.

I have driven everywhere I need to get to on a regular basis already to get used to the car. My form with a manual transmission really needs some work, I just have to drive like grandma for a while to set the muscle memory.

There are even some sweet little storage compartments behind the seats and in the center console. One for knives, one for guns, and one for ammo. ;)

Pics coming soon.

Remember to check the oil level on a regular basis. Rotaries burn oil as part of their regular operation.

Enjoy your "new" car. :)

They are fun aren't they?! They're not the torquiest, but do they ever rev smooooth!
Enjoy!

I'm not sure about that generation RX7 but the newest ones(before they were discontinued) could last a long time as long as the apex seals were kept in good condition or replaced when needed as far as I've been told. The new RX8 has been being bought back by dealers because they have less power than advertised, man imagine putting a down payment for a new car you haven't even driven then getting about 220hp rather than 250 like "rated". Good luck with the ride. And whatever you do, don't get a whistle tip, Woo Wooo:D

Also another thing to remember is to let your car warm up before turning it of.For example if you had to move the car a short distance. What happens is the next time you go to start the car the computer thinks the car is cold and floods itself with fuel.If this happens the car will not start.AFAIK there is no fix as to the computer. To get car running again take the engine EGI fuse out crank the motor a few times replace the fuse and it should start because the extra fuel is dumped out,you may have to do this a few times. There is a more involved process that I will post if needed.

I had an '85 GSL-SE w/the 13b motor. They are lots of fun to drive. Put on a header, exhaust, and carb and it will really be fun

The thing with the apex seals is kind of overrated. The engines are durable and long running so long as you keep oil in it and the oil drip in the intake is working (oil in the gas works too). Apex seals also start blowing when you turbocharge. Just like a regular engines piston rings, boost wears them down a lot faster.

powell: The RX-8 was crippled by US emissions like all the other cars. The power is there you just have to uncork it.

rycen: Thanks for the advice. Thats one of the first technical articles I read on it. Got the page saved to disk just in case.

CUTIGER3: I have a GS, its got a 12A and is already carburated. :D

Yeah, it has a carb...but it's not a Weber ;)
Get a Weber 48mm IDA and intake and your 12A will sing. Of course the carb and intake will run $650+
Back in the day, someone made an intake or adapt. plate to fit a 4bbl Holley  Cheap, easy power!
